Vision
The BBF’s overarching vision is to cultivate a harmonious relationship between humanity and nature, where both thrive in mutual respect and coexistence. One of our main goals is to preserve endemic biodiversity and encourage others to do the same. Through collaborative research, community engagement, and youth empowerment, BBF will safeguard the ecological treasures of The Bahamas for generations to come, ensuring that its natural splendour remains a source of wonder, inspiration, and resources for all.
Mission
Founded on the belief that safeguarding biodiversity is paramount to sustaining life on Earth, The Bahamas Biodiversity Foundation (BBF) operates with a dual mission: to study and protect the diverse array of species that call The Bahamas home, especially endemic species, and to educate and empower Bahamians to join in this work in their own ways. Through meticulous scientific research and fieldwork, BBF endeavors to deepen our understanding of the unique ecosystems within The Bahamas and the complex interdependencies that sustain them. By documenting species distributions, monitoring population trends, and studying ecosystem dynamics, BBF will contribute invaluable data to inform evidence-based conservation strategies aimed at mitigating threats to biodiversity, such as habitat loss, climate change, and invasive species.
BBF will engage with public and private partners to facilitate research and capacity building across The Bahamas, focusing on synergies that can maximize the impact of their efforts. However, BBF recognizes that effective conservation extends beyond scientific inquiry; it requires active engagement and collaboration with local communities.
The BBF pays special attention to endemic biodiversity because these organisms cannot be found anywhere else in the world and will only exist if they are protected in The Bahamas.
